Creative Schools Project

February 28, 2024

The children in 4th class recently participated in a 10 week Art Project as part of the Creative Schools Project. Ms Pat Looby was the visiting Art teacher and she came to the school each week to work with Mrs Walsh’s and Ms O’Mahony’s classes.

The first few weeks were spent sketching, painting, and printing leaves and wild flowers from the school garden. The children particularly enjoyed learning the printmaking techniques using fabric printing ink and rollers.

The children also learned how to press and dry these wild flowers.

After that the children were instructed in the craft of embroidery and embroidered flowers onto linen using a variety of stitches. These flowers were cut out and sewn onto a larger piece of fabric to form a picture of flowers growing wild in a garden. The completed collaborative tapestry project was mounted on a wooden frame and is now on display in the school.

Congratulations to 4th class and their teachers and of course a huge thank you to Ms Pat Looby for all her help, guidance, expertise and patience. This beautiful tapestry will enhance our school for many years to come.
